Five stars for the location. Ocean view! The staff, although is helpful, but not as friendly. The room was clean and cozy.
This is my favorite place in the US. This hotel is beautiful with gardens and a pool.Beach views from some rooms. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The beds and pillows are just the way I like them. The glass shower gives it a spa type feel. Next door is a baseball field that is used for a dog park. The town is extremely pet friendly with outside eating area that include dog bowls for water, even the park at the beach has a water fountain for dogs. Hotel is walking distance to the beach which takes about 15 minutes. You walk past many small restaurants and shops. If ever in California I will always make a point to stay here. July prices are kind of high at around $200 a night but that was when the horse racing is in town (a big deal with lots of travelers) 2017. But stayed in May 2014 and got my room for around $60 last minute. Only other down side is no free breakfast but 20% off little eatery on property.
Rooms are more modern with fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Smelled musty. Comfy bed. Had a balcony room with a lovely view. Parking in rear. Difficult to find. Make a u turn if you've come from the main highway. 2 blocks from the water technically but to touch the water you have to walk over commuter train tracks. Hard to find cafe had very fresh, healthy fare. Pool is next to busy street but hard to tell as the fountains and gardens hide it well. Also next to a dog park. Staff were pleasant.
The only thing premier about this hotel is the view. Pool closes earlier than ANY hotel we have ever stayed at, no free breakfast, bed hard as a rock, light streaming in all round door, no bath tub, one coffee in king size bedroom. Not sure why classified as premier have stayed at better Best Western's that aren't premiers.
Beautiful, quiet, great pool and hot tub and garden area, classy rooms. Rooms either overlook the lovely pool/garden area or look out at the ocean sunset. One of the best values for a nice hotel in Del Mar. However, NOT near any beach access, and the cafe is expensive and mediocre.
